27.06.2023UK research excellence framework adopts expanded definition of excellence

The UK research excellence framework will work on the basis of an expanded definition of excellence from 2028. Among the key decisions published by the four UK higher education funding bodies in June 2023 are: more weight to people, culture and environment, and a reduced focus on individual output in favor of evaluating teams. This move mirrors calls for culture change in academia from the Open Science movement as well as the current efforts to reform research assessment within COARA.
